While the Vikings might be in the market for a safety upgrade, the 2011 class of rookies isn't all that impressive. There isn't a first-round value among the free safeties and the depth isn't great either. NFL Scouting looks at the good news, bad news, stats and projections for the top options.

In the first of a two-part series on the safeties, we review the 2011 group of free safeties. These are your centerfielders – the guys you expect to cover a lot of ground deep in the secondary. They are the defense's last line of defense, but should also play with exceptional instincts.
