CB Cook an injury concern once again
Chris Cook (Kevin Brown/Viking Update)

Vikings cornerback Chris Cook, who ended up on injured reserve at the end of his rookie season with knee injuries, will be part of the Vikings’ injury report once again after a strained groin knocked him out of the Bucs game Sunday.
With injuries striking the NFL pretty hard through the first two weeks, with players like
Jamaal Charles
of the Chiefs and
Nick Collins
of the Packers joining a host of other players that are gone for the year, the Vikings have come through the first two games relatively unscathed.
But one name that is going to be monitored closely over the next few days is cornerback
Chris Cook
, who left Sunday’s game with a groin injury. Cook, who has missed a lot of time in his first two seasons with the Vikings, is already considered as a question mark for Sunday’s game.
Given the offensive firepower the Lions have shown in their first two games, the Vikings are going to need all the defensive help they can get. Cook, who has missed time with injuries to both knees, has had a difficult time staying on the field, which has pushed back his professional progress and, to date, prevented him taking over a starting spot.
He was getting treatment on Monday for what is being termed a strained groin.
We will know more Wednesday when the Vikings return to practice and are required to disclose the extent of his participation, if any, but for all the woes the Vikings have had to date early in the season, one that hasn’t been part of it has been injuries. Cook’s is the first significant in-season injury that could see a player miss time. With Detroit coming to town, the Vikings will need everyone to be at full strength and, whether he plays or not, it seems clear that Cook won’t be at 100 percent by Sunday.
TUESDAY NOTES
Kevin Williams
’ return to practice Wednesday will be a welcome relief for the Vikings. Williams was suspended for the first two games of the season and the Vikings have had difficulty getting a consistent pass rush up the middle with him sidelined.
The Vikings officially activated Williams on Tuesday. To make room on the 53-man roster, they released DE
Adrian Awasom
.
The Vikings announced they had 1,500 tickets remaining for the Detroit game, but the game will be televised locally.
The buzz out of Indianapolis continues to fly that Brett Favre is heading to the Colts. While nothing with Favre is out the realm of possibility, given the anemic start by the Colts, it’s seems unlikely Favre would be that interested in making yet another NFL return.
The Vikings have been in contact with Benny Sapp, who was traded last year for
Greg Camarillo
, but not about potentially returning the Vikings, Frazier said. He was cut by Miami after being torched by the Patriots.
Vikings safety
Tyrell Johnson
was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree driving while impaired, a misdemeanor, early Tuesday morning. He was released into custody a couple hours later.
