For the second time in less than a month, Vikings QB Shaun Hill has been named NFL Europe's Offensive Player of the Week.
Vikings QB
Shaun Hill
was honored this week as NFL Europe's Offensive Player of the Week -- the second time this year he has been given the honor.
Hill completed 25-of-42 passes for 274 yards and two TDs in leading the Amsterdam Admirals to a 27-24 win over the Frankfurt Galaxy Saturday. Both TDs were thrown to former Vikings WR Matt Hatchette.
Hill continues to impress in NFLE. He leads the league in pass attempts (244), completions (148) and yards passing (1,470).
THURSDAY NOTES
* The
Michael Bennett
shooting saga took another turn Wednesday. Although a 911 call was made to the state patrol May 11 on the night of the shooting incident, questions are being raised as to why it took 10 days for Bennett to officially file a police report. As reported yesterday by VU, St. Paul police said Wednesday the incident began with an argument Bennett had with a female patron who allegedly lifted his wallet -- leading to an escalation of the incident with some male patrons at Club Cancun and eventually shots being fired. Bennett has yet to return calls asking for his side of the incident.
* The NFL clearly plans to be back in Los Angeles and it may be as soon as 2006. The league owners voted 30-1-1 to spend as much as $10 million into the viability of a new stadium as opposed to existing facilities. The early frontrunners for relocation (as opposed to an expansion franchise or two that could both move into L.A. and harvest as much as $1.6 billion for current owners) are the Chargers, Vikings and Colts.
* There are four finalists for the 2008 Super Bowl, although VU has been told that post-Sept. 11 sentiment is behind two of them. The sites are the Meadowlands in New Jersey, Washington D.C., Tampa and Arizona. The odds of the NFL taking a chance on a game in New Jersey or Washington the first week of February is remote. Every other outdoor Super Bowl has been played in warm-weather cities to avoid the chance of a blizzard being the storyline of the NFL title game.
* As reported last week by VU, the Chiefs removed a recommendation to expand the NFL playoffs from 12 to 14 teams Wednesday. The removal of the proposal, according to a league source of VU's, was because it didn't have enough support to have a chance of getting many votes -- much less passing.
