The Vikings downgraded Adrian Peterson to “out” for Sunday’s game because of his high ankle sprain. They also signed Allen Reisner to the active roster to take the reps for the injured Kyle Rudolph.
The Vikings announced a couple of roster and injury moves Saturday. The most meaningful was downgrading Pro Bowl running back
Adrian Peterson
from “doubtful” to “out” on the injury report because of a high ankle sprain suffered last Sunday.
Peterson hasn’t practiced all week, but he was trying to convince Vikings coach Leslie Frazier midweek that he would be able to play. Peterson was in a walking boot until Thursday, when it was removed and he did some work in the pool. On Friday, he was on the field at the start of practice but walked off to receive treatment before the team drills started.
“The trouble he had was when he got up on his toes to plant or make a cut; that’s where he had trouble," Frazier said after Friday’s practice. “That being the case, it’s doubtful he’ll be able to get to the point where by Sunday we felt like he would be able to get out there, but we’ll see.”
Peterson suffered the Grade-1 (the least severe) sprain when he was tackled by
Oakland Raiders
safety
Michael Huff
in the first quarter of Sunday’s loss. He was helped off the field, examined on the sidelines and taken into the tunnel on a cart. X-rays at the Metrodome revealed no fracture, but a magnetic resonance imaging test on Monday showed the sprain.
Tight end
Kyle Rudolph
also suffered a bruised quad in Sunday’s game and was listed as doubtful. On Saturday, the Vikings signed undrafted rookie tight end
Allen Reisner
off the practice squad to the 53-man roster to take Rudolph’s reps against the
Atlanta Falcons
.
To make room for Reisner, the Vikings waived rookie receiver
Stephen Burton
