Differences expected in franchise designation

Some players are accepting of the franchise tag, which could start being implemented on Monday, but others, like Cliff Avril of the Lions and Ravens running back Ray Rice, are adamant they want the security of a long-term deal anchored by a huge signing bonus. The two-week period for designating NFL veterans as franchise free agents began on Monday and, at least as of this writing midway through the day, no one had yet received the marker. Which has hardly stopped players and agents from already weighing in on the merits – and, in most cases – demerits of the tag. And that's hardly news.
