The Redskins will reportedly give up three first-round picks, as well as a second-rounder, to move up to the second spot in the draft and be in position to nab QB Robert Griffin III.
The
St. Louis Rams
have agreed to trade the No. 2 overall pick in next month's draft to the Redskins, Rams vice president and chief operating officer Kevin Demoff confirmed to The Sports Xchange.
The Rams would reportedly receive Washington's No. 6 overall pick this year, two future first-round picks and a second-round pick in a trade first reported by FOXSports.com. It's the type of bounty the Rams hoped to land when new coach Jeff Fisher said last month the team is committed to quarterback
Sam Bradford
and would listen to offers for the second overall pick.
The trade cannot become official until the new league year begins at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, when free agency also opens.
With the
Indianapolis Colts
expected to select
Stanford
quarterback
Andrew Luck
with the first overall pick, the Redskins would then be positioned to grab Heisman Trophy winner
Robert Griffin
III.
The Redskins' urgency to move up to the No. 2 spot was heightened with multiple reports saying Peyton Manning told the team he wasn't interested in playing for Washington after being released by Indianapolis on Wednesday. With Cleveland and Miami - should the Dolphins not sign Manning - both interested in trading up to nab Griffin III, the Redskins made a preemptive strike with a tantalizing package of draft picks to help the Rams stock their roster over the next few years.
