The Vikings are getting creative in their roster rebuild, signing a former college point guard as a potential defensive back and punt returner.

The Minnesota Vikings are apparently going to any lengths to overhaul an aging roster that finished tied for the worst record in franchise history in 2011.

Minnesota signed Nick Taylor, a former point guard on the Florida International basketball team, to a three-year contract on Friday. Taylor was listed as 5-foot-10, 165 pounds in his final season in 2009-10 with the Panthers. According to a report from ESPN1500's Tom Pelissero, Taylor spent last season playing in a minor arena football league as a cornerback.

Taylor, 23, worked out at FIU's pro day on Wednesday, where he was reportedly clocked at 4.30 in the 40-yard dash. The Vikings announced the singing on Friday afternoon.

Taylor tweeted the news @NickTaylor32, writing, “Im a Viking!!!!”

He played three seasons for the FIU basketball team, averaging 1.3 points and 1.7 assists per-game.

The Vikings listed him as a defensive back.
