Mistral Raymond had a “significant” ankle injury, but there was no fracture and no high ankle sprain, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said Monday. However, he will miss time with the “subluxation.”
The Vikings got good news on the injury front Monday. After looking like starting safety
Mistral Raymond
could be lost for the season when he suffered an ankle injury on San Francisco’s second drive of Sunday’s game, the tests showed a more favorable result.
“He does have a significant ankle injury. He suffered a bone bruise around that ankle. But the good news is, it doesn’t look like we’re going to have to put him on (injured reserve), but he will have to miss some time for sure while he’s in recovery,” Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said. “But no high ankle sprain. Just good news all the way around. It looked as if it may have been something that would require surgery. That’s not going to be the case.”
Raymond was coming up to make a tackle on 49ers running back
Frank Gore
when the safety’s right foot appeared to get stuck in the turf of Mall of America Field. Raymond’s 13th play of the game looked to be his final one for the season.
The Vikings placed an air cast on his right leg and took him to the locker room on a cart.
Frazier said Sanford “sublexed the ankle, which creates a little bit of pain and tension for him for sure.” Subluxation implies a partial separation, which is likely why is appeared he had initially fractured the ankle.
Raymond claimed the starting spot with a strong preseason and had played relatively well in his first two-plus outings of the regular season. He finished the season with six tackles and two passes defensed.
Raymond was a sixth-round draft choice of the Vikings in 2011 and started five games in his rookie year, registering 36 tackles, an interception, two passes broken up and two quarterback hurries.
In other injury news, DE
Jared Allen
is doing better Monday after suffering neck spasms that caused him to miss some snaps during the game. He did return to action and had a sack and forced fumble late in the Vikings’ win.
LB
Erin Henderson
has not passed his concussion test yet and will be monitored throughout the week. He suffered his injury the previous week at Indianapolis.
Backup DE D’Aundre Reed (calf), who also was injured in the Indianapolis game, will be monitored throughout the week, too.
