Percy Harvin is “day-to-day” with a sprained ankle that caused him to miss minimal time in Sunday’s loss. He was on crutches in the locker room Monday but thankful an MRI showed no fractures.
Vikings receiver
Percy Harvin
doesn’t have a fractured ankle, a magnetic resonance imaging test confirmed Monday, but he was on crutches in the locker room Monday and said he initially feared the diagnosis would be worse.
“I thought I was done. The pain I was feeling at the moment, it kind of let up as I walked off and went to the sideline, which gave me strength to think I could go back in that game. But later on that day I could put no pressure on it,” Harvin said.
As it turned out, Harvin sprained his left ankle in three different places on the Vikings’ second series of the second half when he was tackled for a 3-yard loss as his ankle twisted. He immediately rolled over and started writhing in pain but limped slowly off the field under his own power after being tended to by the Vikings’ medical staff.
He returned on the following series.
“No fracture, or anything like that. He’ll probably be day-to-day throughout the week,” Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said Monday. “We’re hoping to have him on Sunday, but it’s too early to tell.”
Despite recounting the pain level, Harvin also refused to rule himself out against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
“I’m just going to go day by day. I’m in a lot of pain,” Harvin said. “There’s a lot of swelling right now. My whole ankle, all the way around, is swollen. So we’ve got a lot of work to do. It’s a long shot, but I’m not ruling myself out.”
Although Harvin returned to the Seattle game a series after turning his ankle, he said as the game ended he knew “it wasn’t good.”
Harvin entered Sunday’s game tied for first in the NFL in receptions, first in combined yards (rushing, receiving and returning), first in yards after the catch and first in the NFC in kickoff return average.
Harvin also entered the game with a hamstring injury that has been plaguing him since Oct. 11, when he first showed up on the injury report as limited.
He wasn’t listed before the Arizona or Tampa Bay games with the hamstring injury, but was listed on the injury report last week before the Seahawks game.
He re-injured the hamstring on the Vikings’ first series of the second half and his return was announced as questionable, just as it was after he injured his ankle on the next series.
He finished the game with a season-low two catches for 10 yards.
The Vikings expect to get John Carlson (concussion) back on Wednesday. The tight end signed a five-year, $25 million contract as a free agent in March, but he has only caught three passes for 8 yards. He missed the last two games with the concussion.
Defensive tackle Letroy Guion has turf toe and could be jeopardy of missing Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions, Frazier indicated.
