Vikings announce offseason schedule

The Vikings announced their tentative practice dates for the offseason, capped by the mandatory minicamp June 18-20, as well as a couple of changes on the coaching staff.

The Vikings announced their tentative key dates for the offseason, including their 10 organized team activities (OTAs), their rookie minicamp and the mandatory minicamp.

The offseason conditioning program is slated to kick off the week leading up to the NFL draft, followed by the draft on April 25-27 and rookie minicamp the weekend of May 3 to May 5.

The three weeks of OTAs (10 total practices) are scheduled to start in late May and progress sporadically through mid-June. The first three sessions are May 28-30, followed by June 4-6 and finally June 10-13.

The mandatory minicamp is scheduled for June 18-20. The Vikings will expect all of their signed players to participate in the full minicamp, with the exception of players who are still recovering from offseason surgeries, including center John Sullivan, who had microfracture surgery on his left knee.

TWEAKING THE STAFF

The Vikings also announced two changes in the coaching staff.

Ryan Ficken, who was the assistant wide receivers coach, is now the assistant special teams coach, working under special teams coordinator Mike Priefer. Ficken replaces Chris White, who left last month to become the running backs coach at the University of Iowa.

The Vikings also hired Jeff Howard to replace Cam Turner as the assistant to the head coach. Turner left Minnesota's staff to join his father's coaching staff at Florida International University. Howard spent 2011-12 as a graduate assistant at Texas Tech, where he worked with safeties and was the defensive recruiting coordinator.
