Jared Allen isn't expected to practice again until training camp after shoulder surgery in February.
Jennings, Allen expected back next week
Defensive end Jared Allen and wide receiver Greg Jennings are expected back at practices for the second week of OTAs starting next Tuesday.
Jennings suffered a minor ankle injury in the first OTA on Tuesday and wasn't practicing Wednesday when the media was allowed to watch. After missing eight games last year because of injury – he had never missed more than three games in any of his previous six seasons – he knew how it might be perceived.
"He said, ‘Of all the times for me to get injured, with the media coming and with my history over this past year and now I know what's going to be written and said,'" head coach Leslie Frazier said, "but it's just a minor injury and he'll be back and going. No issues."
Allen is also expected back at practices next week after skipping the opening week of voluntary practices to celebrate the third anniversary of his wedding.
"From everything in my conversations with him, he should be back for our practices next week, which will be good," Frazier said. "He actually gets back in on June 1, so we're looking forward to having him back around and participating as well."
Allen had surgery on his knee and shoulder in February and told SiriusXM last week that he has been sleeping much better lately after pain from the shoulder injury and then the surgery has been bothering him for close to a year. He chose to delay surgery on the shoulder until after the 2012 season so he wouldn't miss any games.
"I'm excited to be playing ball and especially I'm excited to be healthy this year. That's the biggest thing," he told Sirius XM. "… I'm finally able to train this year. My shoulder is back. I didn't know how rehab was going to be, this being the first surgery I've ever had. I'm just excited that my strength is coming back; I'm sleeping again at night. Two years of not sleeping very well, it wears on you."
It's unclear how much Allen will be able to do with his shoulder injury next week, but his attendance is a welcome addition.
In addition to Jennings, who hurt the ankle on the first day of OTAs, young receivers Greg Childs (knee) and Chris Summers (hamstring), along with veteran center John Sullivan (knee), attended practice but didn't participate in much this week.
