Tramon Williams returned after missing the last four weeks with a knee injury ... plus more from Monday's practice from the Don Hutson Center.

Veteran Green Bay Packers cornerback Tramon Williams returned to practice after sustaining a bone bruise to his knee during the third day of training camp.

“It felt OK,” a smiling Williams said after Monday’s practice, his first in four weeks. “Coaches limited my reps, obviously, but it felt good, for the most part, moving around against different guys. I wondered how that would feel. It held up.”

With practice moved to the Don Hutson Center’s FieldTurf surface after a deluge of rain in the morning, coach Mike McCarthy said a key to Williams’ recovery will be how he feels on Tuesday.

Williams didn’t think he’d play in Thursday’s preseason finale against Kansas City and he wouldn’t commit to being ready for Week 1 at San Francisco, but he said that “it’s definitely a possibility.” He was happy with his conditioning.

“I wasn’t limited as far as me being out there. I was going to play whatever I wanted to play (bump, man, etc.),” he said. “I was limited in play time, not making plays. They don’t want to bring me right out and kill me the first day.”

Williams looked like himself, including bursting forward in an attempt to break up a pass to Charles Johnson.

“It felt natural,” he said. “It was just wondering how it would feel reacting, making different cuts without thinking and going against different guys. It reacted well. It was encouraging.”

Injury updates

New injuries: WR Kevin Dorsey (toe), LB Dezman Moses (toe).

Old injuries: CB Jarrett Bush (ankle), CB James Nixon (knee/ankle), RB DuJuan Harris (knee), S Sean Richardson (neck), CB Casey Hayward (hamstring), S Morgan Burnett (hamstring), LB Jarvis Reed (ankle), LB Brad Jones (hamstring), OL J.C. Tretter (broken ankle), LT Bryan Bulaga (knee), OT Derek Sherrod (leg), DE Jerel Worthy (ACL).

McCarthy has ruled out Harris, Hayward, Burnett and Jones. He said the team is getting a second opinion on Harris’ injury.

Returning from injuries: CB Tramon Williams (knee).

Extra points

— Gone but not forgotten? That’s the spin on the release of kicker Giorgio Tavecchio. “Giorgio, we had a chance to visit this morning and what I told him in a meeting really he’s still part of the competition,” McCarthy said. “The kicking competition is not over. We feel like we have a very good handle on where Giorgio is as far as his capabilities, his performance, there is a case, a scenario where we may bring him back.”

Tavecchio outkicked Crosby. He made 56-of-64 attempts in practices and the Family Night Scrimmage compared to 53-of-67 for Crosby. Crosby, however, is 4-for-4 in the games while Tavecchio went 1-for-2.

Special teams coordinator Shawn Slocum took issue with the belief that Tavecchio didn’t have an NFL-quality leg.

“I think you saw the field goals that he made from long distance and you saw some of the kickoffs that he hit that demonstrated that he can kick it far enough,” Slocum said.

— Greg Van Roten and undrafted rookie Patrick Lewis will battle on Thursday to be the team’s No. 2 center behind Evan Dietrich-Smith.

— Quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ only snaps this week have been with the scout team, signaling he might not play against Kansas City, though McCarthy wouldn’t commit one way or the other. With Rodgers, James Jones and Randall Cobb, the Packers fielded a formidable scout team on Monday. Rodgers connected with Nelson on a bomb and threw a beauty to Cobb for a touchdown over safety Chris Banjo.

— There is one more opportunity for fans to watch practice this summer, with Tuesday’s workout starting at 11 a.m. After that, the tarps go over the fence for the next 11 months.
