Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was fined $100,000 for his low block on Vikings center John Sullivan.

The NFL fined Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh $100,000 for his low block on Minnesota Vikings center John Sullivan.

Sullivan was hurt when Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy intercepted a deflected pass and returned it to the end zone. However, the would-be touchdown was called back because Suh, who has been fined and suspended before for his on-the-field actions, dove at Sullivan’s left knee as he was trailing Levy by at least five yards. Sullivan ended up on the ground grasping at his left knee but returned for the Vikings’ next series and didn’t miss a play.

Sullivan said Monday he felt fortunate to come away with only a bruised knee.

“It looked like it could have led to a pretty serious injury. I feel like I’m pretty lucky today to be relatively unscathed,” Sullivan said Monday, walking through the locker room without a noticeable limp.

“I think guys get caught up in the play sometimes and sometimes things happen,” Sullivan said. “It’s hard to even remember what you do when you get caught up in the moment. I appreciate the fact that he said something to me.”

Suh told reporters after the game that he talked to Sullivan and indicated everything between them was good.

“He apologized and said there was no intent to injure,” Sullivan said. “It’s fine.”

Sunday’s incident was hardly the first time Suh’s actions on the field have been considered dirty.

Last year, he kicked kick Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub in the groin. Suh was on the ground next to Schaub and kicked him after Schaub released the ball. Suh wasn’t suspended for his 2012 kick on Schaub, but he was fined $30,000.

In 2011, Suh was suspended two games for stomping on the arm of Green Bay Packers lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith as Suh was leaving the pile.

In 2011, Suh was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct, roughing the passing and a 15-yard facemask penalty, among other infractions. In 2010, among his 11 penalties were roughing the passer, illegal use of the hands, a horse-collar tackle, two for unnecessary roughness, an illegal block above the waist, and a facemask.

Suh makes $37,058 in base salary per game. According to the Detroit Free Press, Suh had been fined a total of $77,500 for five separate infractions before his block on Sulivan.

However, according to the Free Press, he has made more than $51.7 million since being a first-round draft pick of the Lions in 2010.
