Peterson out of boot, to be evaluated
Adrian Peterson has shed his walking boot and will be evaluated further on Wednesday and Thursday before the Vikings make a decision about his playing status for Sunday.
Adrian Peterson is out of his walking boot already, just two days after his suffered a mid-foot sprain, according to Vikings coach Leslie Frazier.
Frazier told KFAN radio Tuesday that Peterson would be evaluated later this week, probably Thursday.
"We'll see how he moves around … probably Thursday and make a decision there," Frazier told KFAN. "They took him out of the boot (Tuesday) so he's able to put a little weight on it. We'll put him in the pool (Wednesday), let him do some things in the swim pool and then we'll put him on land on Thursday and see how he feels."
A CT scan on Monday confirmed what X-rays and MRIs on Sunday showed: no bone or ligament damage to the right foot.
Peterson injured the foot Sunday when he was tackled in the second quarter by Baltimore Ravens linebacker Arthur Brown, who landed across the lower part of Peterson's legs when he was on the ground.
Peterson said on Monday that tests had already rule out a more serious Lisfranc injury, which likely would have shut him down for the rest of the season.
"Of course that was one thing that will pop up in your mind. That's one thing I didn't want to hear so it feels good to have that cleared out," Peterson said.
"Initially you don't know exactly what's going on when you're feeling it. That initial contact definitely didn't feel good. I was kind of worried, but kind of cleared up a little bit after getting the MRI."
Peterson entered the game leading the league in rushing with 1,208 yards, but he had gained only 13 yards on seven carries before the injury. Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy now leads the league with 1,305 rushing yards. The Vikings host the Eagles on Sunday.
