Peterson, Gerhart headline Vikings inactives
That led an extensive list of normal starters and contributors that are inactive for the Vikings Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Peterson suffered a right mid-foot sprain in the second quarter against the Baltimore Ravens and Gerhart suffered a hamstring strain in the fourth quarter.
Peterson and Gerhart both went through the individual portion of practice on Friday, catching passes while jogging routes, and were listed as limited on the injury report. Peterson appeared to be laboring at times but said he was confident he could play. He lobbied to do so, but was turned down.
In addition to Peterson and Gerhart, starting right guard Brandon Fusco is out with a knee injury, starting tight end John Carlson is out with a concussion and starting tight end Kyle Rudolph was also placed on injured reserve last week.
On defense, injuries are taking apart the secondary, too. Cornerbacks Xavier Rhodes (ankle) and Chris Cook (knee) are also inactive. That means Marcus Sherels and will start at cornerback with Robert Blanton in the nickel.
Rhett Ellison will start at tight end, Matt Asiata at running back and Joe Berger at right guard.
For the Eagles, QB Matt Barkley, S Earl Wolff, CB Curtis Marsh, RB Matthew Tucker, LB Najee Goode and tackles Matt Tobin and Dennis Kelly are inactive.
