Darren Sharper arrested on suspicion of rape

Former Vikings safety Darren Sharper was arrested in Los Angeles Friday night on suspicion of rape with two other incidents also under investigation, according to the website TMZ.com.

Former Viking Darren Sharper is a free man for now, but, if multiple charges of criminal sexual conduct are proved true, that may not last for long.

Sharper was booked late Friday night in Los Angeles on two separate counts of suspicion of rape. He was released on $200,000 bail with a preliminary court date set for Feb. 14.

Police reports state that the LAPD is investigating one alleged assault that took place in West Los Angeles in October and another within the last two weeks. In addition, New Orleans police authorities claimed Saturday that they are investigating a similar complaint filed in late September.

Sharper was suspended without pay Saturday by the NFL Network. According to network spokesman Alex Reithmiller, the suspension was "effective immediately," Pro Football Talk reported.

As with any ongoing investigation, a rush to judgment is unwarranted. But, with three similar allegations being made, it doesn't look good for Sharper. Whether the allegations are proved or not, Sharper's post-NFL career would seem to be flat-lining.

SUNDAY NOTES

  • Norv Turner has accepted the job of Vikings offensive coordinator, according to CBSSports.com. Head coach Mike Zimmer said he will wait to announce the any coaching hires until the full staff is assembled.

  • It seems ironic that it took 35 minutes for the Metrodome roof to deflate. It was the first anticipated deflation, so it was done under clinical condition. It wasn't the first time the roof came down. It was just the first time it was expected.

  • Chris Kluwe continues to torch his bridges behind in him. In a recent interview, Kluwe said that if his allegations against special teams coordinator Mike Priefer aren't confirmed, he will sue the Vikings – potentially threatening former teammates with perjury. Yet Kluwe claims he loves the Vikings organization.
