VU has learned that Cris Carter may want to end his career where it began.
Cris Carter began his career in Philadelphia and an Eagles source of VU said he may be looking to end his career there as well.
Carter, who is in Philadelphia for today's NBA All-Star game, is said to be interested in going to the Eagles. In a media interview, the Philly press said Carter is focusing on five teams -- Philly, St. Louis, New Orleans and Miami, as well as Baltimore if the Ravens can clear up cap space to make any free agent acquisitions.
Unlike free agent players, Carter can talk to any team he wants, since the Vikings gave him permission to peddle his services. Since the Eagles coaching staff is returning tonight from Hawaii after Saturday's Pro Bowl -- the losing team from the conference title games coach the All Pro squads -- it's been impossible for Carter to have a chance to discuss his future with Andy Reid.
One other point made clear by the Eagles beat reporters -- Carter is definitely not looking at returning to the Vikings as an option at this point.
SUNDAY NOTES
* The rumor mill is turning again in Tampa Bay and this time it involves Dennis Green. The Bucs coaching search has become a joke. First Bill Parcells is said to be locked and loaded and even compiling a staff before Tony Dungy was fired. Once he learned he could be in trouble with tampering with coaches, he backed away, leaving the Bucs without a coach. Then Jon Gruden rumors surface, but those died down when it seemed that the Bucs general managers had Baltimore defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis locked up. Yet, at the 11th hour, the Glazer brothers (Dumb and Dumber) nixed the deal and now McKay is seriously contemplating resigning. Enter Green, stage left. With the team potentially now looking for a new coach and a top personnel man, Green is seen by some in Tampa as a viable option, since he handled both duties with the Vikings.
* A Plan B coaching option that is emerging is former Vikings coach Monte Kiffin, who would be seen as a one-year fix while the Bucs look to sign a long-term deal with a high profile coach.
* Byron Chamberlain played in yesterday's Pro Bowl, catching two passes for 22 yards in the 38-30 loss by the NFC.
