Record-Seekers vs. Bucs

Darren Sharper

The Vikings had a couple of rookie firsts and a few milestones for the veterans in their loss to Tampa Bay.

VIKINGS-BUCS GAME NOTES

1) Marcus Johnson became the first rookie guard and sixth offensive lineman overall in team history to start a season opener. Mick Tingelhoff (1962), Doug Davis (1966), Gary Zimmerman (1986), Everett Lindsay (1993) and Todd Steussie (1994) were the other tackles and centers.

2) Chris Kluwe's four-punt average of 54.3 yards is the second-best performance in team history, trailing only Mitch Berger's 55.8-yard average against Cincinnati in 1998.

3) Kluwe's 62-yard punt set a team record for the longest punt on a Viking's first kick in the NFL. The last Vikings rookie to punt for 62 yards was Neil Clabo during the 1975 season.

4) Darren Sharper's 88-yard interception return for a touchdown was the fifth longest in team history and the longest in 14 years. It was Sharper's eighth career defensive TD and the second longest of his career. He had an 89-yarder as a Packer when playing against Miami in 2002.

5) Michael Bennett and Nate Burleson each reached the century mark in career receptions. Bennett had three catches to bring his career total to 102. Burleson had three catches to give him 100 for his career.

6) The Vikings sold out their 77th consecutive game.

7) Daunte Culpepper's streak of 21 straight games with a touchdown pass ended. The last time he did not have a passing touchdown was on Nov. 23, 2003.
