Shakeup Continues

The Vikings continue to make the moves that remind fans of training camp battles, not midseason decisions.

The Vikings made what appears to be a widely unpopular move Thursday when they confirmed that guard Chris Liwienski was going to be benched in favor of recently acquired Toniu Fonoti.

The move is made despite the fact that Fonoti doesn't know the offense yet and has been sidelined since being traded for with a broken hand. The move is also made despite Liwienski starting 75 straight games -- more than the entire tenure of Tice as head coach.

The fallout was apparent Thursday as Tice confirmed the switch. In a potentially related move, the team announced that assistant offensive line coach Corbin Lacina quit after a run-in with Tice.

If this is the management style new owner Zygi Wilf wants, we applaud Tice and his take-charge style. If it isn't, this move looks to be another nail in a coaching coffin that has been dangling over the hole for some time.

FRIDAY NOTES
* By a 4-2 vote, the Minnesota Supreme Court denied a petition by the widow of former Viking Korey Stringer in a wrongful death lawsuit against the Vikings. Former Viking Alan Page, now a supreme court justice, recused himself from the case.
* Nate Burleson is still slowed with knee and shoulder injuries and may not play Monday or, if he does, it will be in a reduced capacity.
* Spencer Johnson appears ready to miss Monday's game -- the fifth time in six games that he will be inactive.
* How desperate is ABC to find a Viking to highlight? In promos for Monday night's game, it shows two photos -- one of Brett Favre and one of Tice. We forgot Tice was an active participant who isn't listed on the injury report.
