CB Fred Smoot and T Bryant McKinnie will have to perform community service throughout the summer and during the 2006 season and pay $1,000 fines, and they could receive additional fines for their roles in the a boat party last October on Lake Minnetonka that involved several Vikings.
Vikings cornerback
Fred Smoot
and offensive tackle
Bryant McKinnie
will both be paying $1,000 fines and doing community service, and their punishment from their involvement in a boat party on Lake Minnetonka may not be over yet.
Smoot and McKinnie were fined $1,000 each and will perform 48 hours of community service each for their plea to misdemeanor disorderly conduct. The plea stems for a boat party on Lake Minnetonka last October that drew national attention and embarrassment for the Vikings.
“This incident was not consistent with the values and high standards that we expect and demand of everyone associated with our organization,” Vikings owner Zygi Wilf said in a statement Friday.
Both players will perform community service in the Twin Cities area this summer and participate in “numerous community service programs throughout the 2006 season,” according to a Vikings statement.
But they could receive additional fines from the NFL, according to the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy.
“Both the
Minnesota Vikings
and the NFL will continue to hold our players, coaches and staff to a high standard both on and off the field,” Wilf said. “Our organization has taken numerous steps to strengthen our franchise and will continue to do so as we look forward to the 2006 season and beyond.”
