Former Vikings defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell was back in New York Thursday looking for a job -- not with the Giants or the Jets, but with the league office as one of its vice presidents of operations.

Ted Cottrell has a wealth of experience that he brought to the Vikings in his short tenure as defensive coordinator. After being fired in January when Brad Childress took over the team, Cottrell has been looking for work ever since.

After being bypassed with the many coaching vacancies that came along, Cottrell may have found his gig after all -- replacing Art Shell with the league office in New York City.

Cottrell interviewed Thursday for the position of Vice President of Football Operations. The job became available when Shell took a job with the Raiders to return as their head coach.

Cottrell should know by next week if the job is his.

FRIDAY NOTES
