Onterrio Smith suffered yet another blow in his attempt to reclaim his professional football career, being cut Saturday by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League and putting his career in further doubt.

Onterrio Smith's professional football career may have seen its final stop Saturday.

Smith, still under suspension by the NFL for the Whizzinator scandal, was trying to reclaim his career in the Candian Football League. That hope was dashed Saturday when he was released by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

There is some debate as to how serious Smith was about making a professional comeback. He showed up to training camp weighing 245 pounds -- more than 20 pounds above his Vikings playing weight -- and almost immediately sprained an ankle that reduced his playing time during training camp.

By CFL rules, no more than 19 American players can be on a 42-man roster. Smith didn't make that cut and was released. He was scheduled to make less than $60,000 on the one-year contract he signed with the Blue Bombers.

Smith remains on indefinite suspension from the NFL, despite more than a year having gone by since he was intially suspended. He was released by the Vikings in May.
