The Vikings added some needed depth at wide receiver Tuesday by signing a pair of players -- journeyman Kevin Kasper and former Marshall University star Josh Davis in hopes they can provide some depth to the position.
The Vikings signed a pair of players Tuesday in hopes of creating more depth at the wide receiver position, signing
Kevin Kasper
and
Josh Davis
.
Kasper, who was drafted by the Broncos in 2001, spent time with Denver, the Cardinals, the Patriots, the Seahawks and the Texans -- winning a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots during his stint in New England. He was out of the NFL in 2005 and last seen with Chicago of the Arena Football League.
Josh Davis, a standout at Marshall, went undrafted last year and spent much of the season on the Dolphins practice squad.
Both players are viewed as something of longshots to make the team, but they both have plenty of speed and could get a look in the return game. The Vikings have made it clear that, now that
Koren Robinson
is slated as a full-time starter, they don't want K-Rob returning kicks on a full-time basis.
THURSDAY NOTES
* Former St. Cloud State and Vikings wide receiver
Ben Nelson
was signed by the Buccaneers. Nelson, who was named the Rookie of the Year in the Arena League, caught 94 passes for 1,405 yards and 26 touchdowns as a member of the San Jose SaberCats.
* If you think Kasper and Davis will have a hard time making the final roster, Nelson has an even tougher go of it. With his signing, the Bucs now have 15 wide receivers on their roster.
* Matt Birk's charity golf tournament Monday raised $35,000 for his HIKE Foundation. The Vikings will have another golf tournament Thursday at Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove. The proceeds will benefit the Viking Children's Fund.
