There's no questioning that Pat Williams is a big man and needs to be in order to be an effective nosetackle in the NFL. But when is big too big? According to Brad Childress, Williams has crossed that line.

Brad Childress has made it clear that he intends his rules to be enforced...no matter who the player is. Daunte Culpepper didn't buy into Childress' program immediately and he was shipped out to the Dolphins, sending a message that nobody is immune or above the expectations of the coach.

On Monday, citing weight and conditioning questions and concerns, Childress placed defensive tackle Pat Williams on the physically unable to perform list. No timetable was given for Williams return to practice.

Williams, who was listed at 317 pounds in last year's media guide, came into camp above his prescribed weight and failed the team conditioning test Monday, which consisted of 16 "half-gassers" -- running from the goal line to the 50-yard and back.

Williams was replaced at nosetackle by recently signed DT Ross Kolodziej.

TUESDAY NOTES
* Napoleon Harris spent most of Monday's practice at middle linebacker with the first-team defense -- in between E.J. Henderson and Ben Leber.
* Billy McMullen changed his number from 84 to 12. No Vikings has worn No. 84 since the team traded Randy Moss to the Raiders.
