Mike Tomlin

Two weeks after the Vikings lost Mike Tomlin to the Steelers, they still haven't replaced him. With the Super Bowl over and done with, it appears as though the Vikings will have to faster if they're going outside the organization for Tomlin's replacement.

Vikings fans may find out as early as today if the Vikings' coaching plans involve a member of the Bears' or Colts' coaching staff. Since losing Mike Tomlin to the Steelers two weeks ago, the Vikings haven’t moved forward on replacing him – whether going outside the organization to fill the vacancy or promoting from within.

There is reason for the Vikings to try to act quickly. The conventional wisdom is that the Cowboys are searching for their own head coach from the ranks of the Bears or Colts and, if that’s the case, there would be a strong likelihood that any new coach might want to bring along a couple of his own assistants. It would behoove the Vikings to make their move first before potentially being at the mercy of an assistant with job options.

While no announcement has yet been scheduled, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Vikings burning up the phone lines to get their defensive coordinator search over with. Regardless of who the team brings in, two weeks of inactivity has been long enough. The season is over. It’s time to move on and fill the vacancy.
