Just as hopes of Vikings fans took an upturn with the Chiefs taking themselves out of the Ian Scott sweepstakes, a new (and old) suitor has emerged in the running to retain Scott's services. But the Vikings weren't standing idly by on Monday.
Just when it looked like the Vikings were at the top of the list to sign
Ian Scott
, another precinct is heard from – an old precinct.
After letting Scott hang out on the free-agent market for three weeks, the Bears are suddenly back in the picture. Reports out of Chicago have the Bears showing a renewed interest in Scott. Starting DT
Tank Johnson
got sentenced to four months in jail, which, if served close to its entirety, won’t take him out of training camp, but will take him out of minicamps and the offseason workout program.
However, on Monday Scott was back visiting with the Vikings, the second time in the last week that the defensive lineman has visited with the team.
Scott also has made trips to see the Denver Broncos, who also visited with former Bears defensive tackle Alfonso Boone. Boone signed with the Kansas City Chiefs late last week and, along with the Chiefs re-signing defensive tackle Ron Edwards, that is thought to take the Chiefs out of the mix for Scott.
Although the Atlanta Falcons reportedly have shown an interest in Scott as well, he hasn’t visited there yet.
Scott spent two days last week with the Vikings but left without signing a deal.
The 6-foot-3, 302-pound defender has missed only five games in the last three years, and in that timeframe he has accumulated 66 tackles and two sacks. He started seven games for the Bears last year, 13 in 2005 and the final 13 of 2004.
