QB Carr Could Be Available Soon

A trade of Matt Schaub to the Houston Texans that is looking imminent could dramatically lower the trade value of Texans quarterback David Carr.
According to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com, the
Atlanta Falcons
are on the verge of trading backup quarterback
Matt Schaub
to the
Houston Texans
, and the deal could be completed by the end of Wednesday. Glazer reports that the Falcons would swap first-round picks this year with the Texans and receive second-round picks in the 2007 and 2008 drafts.
While some have speculated that the Vikings had an interest in Schaub last year, those talks never seemed serious and a trade to Minnesota didn’t appear imminent. Houston’s starting quarterback,
David Carr
, has also been a subject of potential trade rumors to the Vikings this offseason, and his value with the Texans would plummet when the Schaub deal is completed.
However, Vikings coach Brad Childress has stated repeatedly this offseason that he envisions second-year quarterback
Tarvaris Jackson
and veteran
Brooks Bollinger
battling it out for the starting spot in training camp, and indications are that it would be Jackson’s job to lose. Childress said he’d be more likely to draft a developmental quarterback, and any veteran acquisition would be more in a mentoring role. That doesn’t fit Carr’s current profile.
Carr was the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2002.
While Schaub has started only two games, he is considered a hotter commodity in league circles.
In 75 starts with the Texans, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Carr has completed 60 percent of his passes for 13,391 yards, 59 touchdowns and 65 interceptions for a 75.5 passer rating.
