A pair of Indianapolis Colts will be at Winter Park today looking for contracts from the Vikings as the first round of free agency slows to a crawl.
The Vikings attempts to get involved in free agency will get a boost this week, as a pair of players will be at Winter Park today as part of free agent visits.
Wide receiver Aaron Moorhead arrived in the Twin Cities Monday and is spending today visiting the team’s practice facility. Meanwhile, safety Mike Doss is scheduled to arrive at Winter Park later today for his own visit.
Moorhead and Doss were both members of the Colts team that won the Super Bowl, but, like several of their teammates, are looking to move on. Moorhead has spent his career playing backup to Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, while Doss was limited to just six games in 2006 due to injury. Doss hadn't received many offers during free agency, so he recently fired his agent and hired Drew Rosenhaus -- who has set up visits this week with the Vikings and the Eagles.
While the free-agent period isn’t over yet, many teams shut down the free-agent portion of the offseason with two or three weeks to go before the draft. Following the draft, free-agent signings historically pick up briefly and then kick-start again after June 1, when veterans with salary-cap implications are typically released.
Doss and Moorhead may be the final two veteran free agents the Vikings bring in before draft weekend.
TUESDAY NOTES
* Darrell Reid of the Colts was arrested and charged with marijuana possession Saturday. He’s the fourth Colts player to be arrested since January.
* The regular season schedule, which was scheduled to be released Thursday, has been delayed by a week or possibly more.
