The Vikings completed their rookie minicamp over the weekend and aren't set to meet as a full squad until June 1. For fans wanting to know more about the 2007 squad, these are the dog days of May.
The Vikings rookies got their feet wet over the weekend, but it’s going to be some time until everyone on the team is together and the pads can start popping – not really popping, but it sounds nice.
The Vikings veterans and rookies will return for the team’s full mini-camp June 1-3, which, for football fans, seems like years away. The players will still be working out in the organized team activities days, but the chance for the media to see the players will be significantly limited.
League rules require that teams leave a certain amount of practices open to the media and, as expected, the Vikings are likely to accommodate only the minimum of those. Can
Adrian Peterson
and
Chester Taylor
co-exist in the same backfield? We’ll see. Is
Tarvaris Jackson
ready to be a full-time starter? Who knows? Is
Todd Lowber
for real? Your guess is as good as ours.
Get ready for the slow time, Vikings fans. The roster has been set for now, and barring a signing or two following the June 1 cuts that kill off some veteran contracts, they’re pretty much set for the start of training camp. The problem is that it's two-and-a-half months away and fans are getting the itch for some football.
TUESDAY NOTES
* The NFL’s new conduct policy has teams reacting and responding faster than ever when it comes to player conduct. Just a year ago, the Vikings came under scrutiny for releasing
Koren Robinson
and marking a box saying he wasn’t playing at a level deemed needed for his position. That was pre-policy. Monday the Jaguars cut former Packer first-rounder
Ahmad Carroll
two days after being arrested and charged with multiple crimes in Atlanta.
* The Raiders and Titans have emerged as two front-runners to sign veteran wide receiver
Keyshawn Johnson
. The Vikings apparently have little interest in the former No. 1 overall pick.
