Draft Audio Review: Brian Robison
The Vikings thought highly enough of Robison to trade picks and move up to draft Robison despite him being about 260 pounds, which is considered light for an every-down defensive end.
"I played at about 265, I mean anywhere between 260 and 270 I feel very comfortable," Robison said. "I can even play very well up around 270, 275 range. I have been up to 287 before so I feel from 260-270 is really my ideal playing weight."
See what else Robison had to say about his athletic skills and his special teams abilities.
The Vikings don't feel a need to have Robison put on weight. They want him to maintain his speed around the edge and felt he was the last player of his caliber at that position and therefore worth moving up at the start of the draft's second day to get him.
"When Tampa Bay was on the clock, we were able to give our sixth-round pick to move up, and Robison was the best football player on the board for us at the time," said vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman, who used a pick obtained from an earlier trade to work the deal. "We did not want to lose him, so we used that ammo to go up and get Robison."
The end result was that Spielman, Robison and head coach Brad Childress were all very pleased with the way the second day of the draft started. Hear what else Childress and Spielman had to say about Robison and the circumstances surrounding the trade to select him.
