Last year, rookie Tarvaris Jackson eventually usurped Brad Johnson’s starting job at quarterback. The two are scheduled to be competing against each other again this Saturday.

Tarvaris Jackson will be competing with Brad Johnson again this Saturday. This time, however, it’s on the soil of the Cayman Islands and not the cooler climes of Winter Park.

Jackson and Johnson will both be part of the DirectTV NFL Quarterback Challenge from the Cayman Islands on Saturday, a competition that pits NFL QBs against each other to measure accuracy, speed, mobility, long distance throwing and “no huddle,” a drill that takes the quarterbacks and receivers through a series of throws.

ESPN will air the competition on at 6 p.m. Central on Aug. 3, with ESPN and NFL Network rebroadcasting at various times after that.

Other quarterbacks scheduled to participate are Jason Campbell (Washington Redskins), Jake Delhomme (Carolina Panthers), Charlie Frye (Cleveland Browns), Byron Leftwich (Jacksonville Jaguars), Alex Smith (San Francisco 49ers) and Michael Vick (Atlanta Falcons). They will be throwing to NFL receivers as well, including Braylon Edwards (Cleveland Browns), T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Cincinnati Bengals), Chad Johnson (Cincinnati Bengals) and Brandon Lloyd (Washington Redskins).

No Vikings receivers are expected to appear.

“The accuracy competition involves the quarterbacks throwing at moving targets (golf carts with big inflatable bull’s eyes attached),” according to the caycompass.com. “The targets are spread out at different distances (10 yards, 20 yards, 40 yards, etc.). The object is to try to hit the [center] of the bull’s eye on each target. Points are awarded for hitting the outer bands as well (think of an archery target) … and ‘he who gets the most points wins.’”

The quarterbacks will also be throwing on the run and throwing deep balls at least 45 yards downfield, trying to get the ball in a 5-foot-square bucket

Last year, Jackson completed 47 of 81 passes (58 percent) for 475 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions for a 62.5 passer rating. Johnson completed 270 of 439 passes (61.5 percent) for 2,750 yards, nine touchdowns and 15 interceptions for a 72.0 rating.
