Former Vikings offensive lineman Brent Boyd was among several former NFL players who testified before Congress on their medical disabilities since retirement.

>Matchett joins staff at East Texas Baptist
Clay Matchett, who spent the 2006 season on the Vikings’ coaching staff as an offensive assistant, has taken an assistant coaching position at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Tex.  A former standout player at Louisiana College, he joins the staff as running backs coach after working with Eric Bienemy with the Vikings last season.  Matchett spent the 2005 season with the Vikings as an intern in operations and public relations, learning about the behind-the-scenes mechanics of the organization.  Prior to joining the Vikings as an intern, he interned with the operations and coaching staffs of the Lakeland (FL) Thunderbolts of the National Indoor Football League in the spring of 2005.

Rookie WR Chandler Williams, who signed a four-year contract with the Vikings, likes his chances of making the team.  “I've played all four receiver spots during the camps,” Williams said.  “I've been doing good on 1-on-1's, but the plays are a lot harder to learn than college. But once I get them down, I feel good about my chances.”  CW is one of three former FIU players going to training camps with NFL teams according to this MiamiHerald.com report.

Vikings’ cornerback Cedric Griffin will be among several NFL players appearing at the 2nd Annual Derrick Johnson “Men of Distinction” Celebrity Weekend this week (June 28-July 1) in Houston, Texas, according to KWTX.com.  The event will raise funds for Houston area charities including the Derrick Johnson Foundation Group Home and Kids Camp for underprivileged children.  More info is available at superdj56.com.

Vikings’ tackle Ryan Cook helped out at football camp for Bears’ LB Brian Urlacher according to this report from KRQE.com in Albuquerque, N.M.

>Ex-Viking Berger would like another chance in NFL
Former Vikings' punter Mitch Berger, who was placed on injured reserve (pelvis) by the New Orleans Saints last season, would like an opportunity with someone again according to Charley Walters.  One would think Berger's ability to kick off would give him a chance as long as he can prove he is healthy.  He has a career punting average of 43.2 and a net of 35.8.
