Edwards won’t face Jones against Seahawks
Vikings second-year defensive end Ray Edwards, who has built on a strong training camp with a pair of solid preseason performances will likely not face Seahawks All-Pro left tackle in this Saturday’s game at Seattle.
Word from Seahawks camp is that Jones did not practice Monday with a shoulder problem. Head coach Mike Holmgren said that Jones would be playing this coming week if it was a regular season game. But in all likelihood, Holmgren will not take any chances.
That said, former Patriots offensive lineman Tom Ashworth is listed as the No. 2 left tackle on the Seahawks depth chart, so Edwards will see what he can do against the seven-year NFL veteran.
Interestingly, Ashworth was signed by the Seahawks just three days after the Vikings signed Steve Hutchinson last season, but he did not play much and underwent hip surgery during the offseason.
Cook will have a good test against Kerney
This will be a good test for Cook to see if he can keep Kerney at bay long enough to give quarterback Tarvaris Jackson time to throw.
Have you noticed the big green dot on the back of the quarterbacks’ helmets during preseason games? Here’s the explanation…
The green dot is the result of a new rule in effect for the 2007 NFL season. The green dot helmet indicates that the helmet is wired with a radio for calling in plays to the quarterback. Teams are allowed to have only one player with a “green dot” helmet on the field at a time.
Apparently, the green dot rule was instated because the league felt offensive teams had an unfair advantage on these plays because they could call in a fake at the last second, by having two quarterbacks (with communication ability with coaches) on the field at the same time.
Revenge not so sweet for Seahawks
It would seem the Seahawks acted out of spite almost when they poison pilled wide receiver Nate Burleson away from the Vikings in retaliation for the Hutchinson signing. But to this point revenge hasn’t been that sweet for Seattle.
