Todd Lowber was one of the more interesting offseason stories, but he was one of eight roster casualties Monday, as the Vikings got two-thirds of the way to trimming their roster to 75 players.

The Vikings announced Monday morning that they have released eight players. Those players are DT Joe Bradley, OG Josh Day, DT Alex Guerrero, QB Drew Henson, LB John Kerr, WR Todd Lowber, punter Alex Reyes and CB Jerron Wishom.

With the releases, the Vikings roster is down to 79 players. Four more players will need to be cut before Tuesday’s 3 p.m. CDT deadline to have rosters at 75 players.

After cutting down to 75 players on Tuesday, NFL teams must trim the roster to 53 players on Saturday. One day later, teams can form an eight-player practice squad, although the Vikings will be allowed to carry guard Seppo Evwaraye as an additional practice squad player because of a special program to encourage development of international players.

The Vikings are expected to play their starters for only one series during Thursday night's preseason finale, giving way to backups looking to earn a roster spot for the rest of the game, according to defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.
