The Vikings gambled and lost when it came to placing quarterback Tyler Thigpen on the cutdown list only to have him claimed by the Chiefs – the Vikings' Week 2 opponent in the regular season.
But, the team still needs to assemble its practice squad and that process got started today. The Vikings filled three of their eight vacancies by re-signing wide receiver Martin Nance, cornerback Chad Johnson and defensive tackle Conrad Bolston. The team also has offensive lineman Seppo Evwaraye, who is termed an NFL Europe exemption.
The team is expected to fill out its remaining practice squad spots later today or Monday.
The Vikings released OG Brian Daniels to make room for the roster claim of TE Garrett Mills.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick wasn’t bluffing when he “threatened” coach Brad Childress not to claim Mills from them and he nabbed LB David Herron from the Vikings.
The New York Giants claimed CB Dovonte Edwards off waivers from the Vikings, where he will compete for a nickel-corner job.
The Chiefs signed DE Khreem Smith to their practice squad, not their active roster today. Obviously scrimmaging Kansas City during training camp gave them a closer look at some of their prospects.
S Greg Blue went unclaimed and is now a free agent able to sign with any team.
