Offensive line needs to play better
The Vikings offensive line has played well at times thus far this season, but they still have yet to put it all together and play up to their full potential for four quarters.
Regardless of whom their quarterback is in the weeks to come, the offensive line needs to become the most stable, consistent, strength of their offense.
Head coach Brad Childress expects them to continue improving together as the season plays out.
“They had a 100-yard rusher the first week and had a pretty good defensive line that they played against this past week and I think they are coming along. Are they perfect? No, but I don’t know anybody that is and I think its continuing to grow and its going to get better and better, and it has gotten better and better.”
The right side of the unit – right tackle Ryan Cook and right guard Artis Hicks – has drawn most of the criticism but the more proven components have also not yet played their best football this season.
Left tackle Bryant McKinnie, left guard Steve Hutchinson and center Matt Birk have all played well overall, but not as well as they can play, with all three showing at least some uncharacteristic lapses at times, especially last week against the Lions.
They will get better.
