Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson passed most of his post-concussion tests on Monday, but the Vikings are monitoring his status daily after he was knocked unconscious Sunday.

Vikings coach Brad Childress is taking things day-by-day with quarterback Tarvaris Jackson after the starter suffered a concussion late in the second quarter of Sunday’s 35-17 win over the San Diego Chargers.

Jackson was at the Vikings’ Winter Park practice facility on Monday and passed four of his five areas of post-concussion testing and the team will check his status again tomorrow. He will be listed as day-to-day.

Whether it tells anything about the extent of his injury or not, Jackson did enter the practice facility with a sense of humor on Monday.

“He bounced in here with a smile on his face, no headaches, and he said, ‘I’m Donovan.’ That’s what he said,” Childress said, referring to Donovan McNabb. “He’s in good spirits, but just because the guy has got a sense of humor, I don’t think that’s one of the criteria (for him coming back).”

Jackson completed 6 of 12 passes for 63 yards and a 65.6 passer rating on Sunday. Brooks Bollinger came on in relief and completed 7 of 10 passes for 95 yards, a touchdown and a 133.3 rating.

The Vikings will have some quarterbacks in for workouts this week, Childress said, and Kelly Holcomb will throw at Winter Park on Tuesday in an effort to gauge his progress in recovering from a whiplash-like neck injury suffered the previous week.

  • Cornerback Antoine Winfield ran today. “We’ll just see if we go through this week if he can burst,” Childress said, pointing out that Winfield was very helpful on the sidelines Sunday against San Diego while sitting out with a hamstring injury.

  • In viewing the game film, Childress was especially impressed with the way the wide receivers were blocking downfield. Incidentally, Troy Williamson will rejoin the team on Wednesday after dealing with the death of his maternal grandmother, but Childress didn’t commit to Williamson being a starter on Sunday or even being active.

  • Players are being given Monday and Tuesday off.

  • At the halfway point of the season, Childress believes middle linebacker E.J. Henderson is playing a Pro Bowl level.
