Allison Wins NFC Award
Allison returned three kickoffs for 143 yards (47.7 avg.), including a team-record 103-yard return for a touchdown that ranks as the longest play in Vikings history. Allison also set a team record with his third kickoff return of 60 or more yards in a single season.
"This honor says a lot about our special teams," Allison said in a statement. "I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity and seize the moment. It was a well-designed scheme and everyone held their blocks. We have a lot of pride in our return unit and we wanted to make a big play."
Allison is the first Viking to win the award since Ryan Longwell against Carolina in 2006 and only the second Vikings player to earn the award as a return man, joining Moe Williams in 1999. Fellow 2007 Vikings rookie classmate Adrian Peterson has been named NFC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season.
Allison has returned only 10 kickoffs this year and is now averaging 37.1 yards per return. He has the three longest returns for the team this season. The Vikings now rank eighth in the league with an average starting field position of the 29.4-yard line after kickoffs.
Allison was selected by the Vikings in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2007 NFL draft out of East Carolina University, where he was a two-time All-Conference USA selection. He also ranks second all-time in Pirates history with 145 career receptions and third all-time with 1,732 career receiving yards in only two seasons at East Carolina.
