Scott Cited for Marijuana Possession
It was the second time this month that a Viking was issued that citation. Safety Dwight Smith was cited for the same thing earlier this month in downtown Minneapolis outside of a gentleman's club. Smith has continued to start for the Vikings since that incident while head coach Brad Childress has said he was waiting to receive more information.
Scott was pulled over for failure to signal by Charleston's Metro Drug Unit after officers saw him stop and talk to another man outside a public housing unit, according to what Lt. Chuck Carpenter, the drug unit's head, told the Associated Press.
Carpenter told the AP that officers smelled the odor of marijuana and asked to search Scott's vehicle. When he refused, a drug-sniffing dog was brought to the vehicle and seconded the officers' suspicions.
Scott played in only four games for the Vikings this season before being placed on season-ending injured reserve with a Jones fracture in his foot. He had three tackles and one quarterback hurry.
Scott is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in March. He led the Vikings with a career-high 5.5 sacks last year and four sacks in 2005, when he amassed a career-high 80 tackles. He was at the Vikings' Winter Park practice facility last week running along the sidelines during practice.
The Ohio State alumnus was a third-round draft pick of the Vikings in 2004.
