The Dolphins and Panthers started releasing a few well-known veterans this week.

  • MLB Dan Morgan, who has missed 53 of 112 career games over seven seasons, was released by the Panthers. Morgan has never been healthy for a full 16-game season, and the team decided it was best to stick with impressive 2007 rookie Jon Beason in the middle. "Last year, with the way things went and the emergence of Jon Beason, we felt that it was time to go in another direction," general manager Marty Hurney said. "I can't speak for Dan, but he's looking forward to continuing to play and maybe a change of scenery will be good as well." Morgan's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said his client intends to play in 2008.

  • QB Trent Green was released by the Dolphins, but there is still a chance he could return to the team. Green was due a $500,000 roster bonus and would have counted $3.6 million against the team's salary cap if he wasn't cut. Green and Bill Parcells are expected to meet soon to discuss the quarterback's future.

  • LG Mike Wahle was released by the Panthers after three seasons with the team. Carolina might slide C Justin Hartwig into Wahle's spot and give the starting center job to 2007 rookie Ryan Kalil.

  • OT L.J. Shelton was released by the Dolphins.

  • DT Keith Traylor was released by the Dolphins.

  • OT Anthony Alabi was released by the Dolphins.

  • DT Anthony Bryant was released by the Dolphins.

  • OT Marion Dukes was released by the Dolphins.

  • DT Marquay Love was released by the Dolphins.

  • OF Joe Toledo was released by the Dolphins.
