Vikings cornerback Cedric Griffin is spending his offseason back in school as he pursues his college degree at the University of Texas.

Griffin going back to school

It’s not exactly Rodney Dangerfield and “Back to School,” but Vikings cornerback Cedric Griffin is one of several former Texas Longhorn players who are spending their offseason going back to school in pursuit of their college degree.

Griffin, who was a solid student at UT as a youth and community studies major, is not that far away from graduating with his degree.

He is being joined in school by two former Longhorns from the 2005 National Championship team:  quarterback Vince Young and safety Michael Griffin, each the No. 1 pick of the Tennessee Titans the past two seasons.

Miami DE Campbell projected to Vikings in this mock

Defensive end has become the most popular position being projected to the Vikings with their first-round pick in the many mock drafts on the internet.  The latest from Shawn Zobel’s Draft Headquarters has the Vikings taking Miami’s Calais Campbell.

“The Vikings defensive end position has been a big need for the past year or two,” according to Zobel.  “With the recent news that Kenechi Udeze has Leukemia and will miss the entire 2008 season, it's become apparent that the team must draft an end this year.  Calais Campbell had a bit of a down year in 2007, but he's still expected to be a first-round pick.  At 6-foot-8, 280 pounds, Campbell has a tremendous combination of size and athleticism.  He'd be a great pick for Minnesota as they attempt to upgrade their pass rush.”

Florida DE Harvey to Vikings in this one

A common name popping up in many mock draft projections has Florida defensive end Derrick Harvey, an underclassman, going to the Vikings at No. 17.

According to The Phanatic Magazine, “Harvey is going to be the end that gets into the backfield and disrupts the running game from the outside, while the Williams boys (Kevin and Pat) keep backs from pounding the ball up the middle.  Harvey also can get to the QB with good speed for a big man.”

Or another DE in Clemson’s Merling

Yet another recent mock also projects a defensive end to the Vikings at No. 17, but this one by someone named Fbkid15 has Clemson’s Phillip Merling landing with Minnesota.
