Gus Frerotte will be coming to back to the Vikings as the team and the veteran QB have agreed to a multi-year deal that will formally be announced after the owners meetings in Palm Beach, Fla.

The Vikings have reached an agreement with QB Gus Frerotte, according to a report by John Clayton of ESPN.

The deal won’t be finalized until after the owners meetings, but it is said to be more than simply a one-year deal.

Clayton caught up with head coach Brad Childress, who said, “The thing is if you watch tape of Gus in St. Louis, you see that he can still fling the football and make all the spot throws. I talked to (Rams head coach and former Vikings offensive coordinator) Scott Linehan about why he was cut by the Rams and he told me that (offensive coordinator) Al Saunders wanted Trent Green as a backup because he knew his system (from the Chiefs), but Scott thought Gus can still play. You can see that he can by watching the film.”

The formal announcement is expected to be made later this week.
