The Vikings completed the signing of their remaining draft picks Wednesday to conclude a two-day flurry that inked all five of their April draft selections.
Earlier Wednesday, the Vikings signed second-round safety
Tyrell Johnson
. Not long afterwards, they completed the task by signing fifth-round quarterback
John David Booty
and sixth-round center
John Sullivan
.
The Vikings got the signing parade started Tuesday by inking defensive tackle
Letroy Guion
and wide receiver
Jaymar Johnson
.
A 2006 All-Pac-10 first-team selection, Booty also earned Rose Bowl Offensive MVP honors in 2007, guided
USC
to a pair of Rose Bowl wins in his career as a starter and holds the Rose Bowl record for career TD passes.
Booty had 3,294 yards in total offense in 2006 (ranking fifth behind
Matt Leinart
(twice),
Carson Palmer
and
Rob Johnson
). Booty also holds several other top-five rankings in USC history, including 6,125 passing yards (fifth), 55 touchdown passes (fourth), .623 completion percentage (third), 436 pass attempts (third) and 29 touchdown passes (tied for fourth). He threw at least one touchdown pass in 26 games and at least two in 17 games.
Sullivan helped anchor
Notre Dame
’s offensive line his last three years in South Bend, Ind., starting in 31 consecutive games before a knee injury forced him to sit out the final two games of his senior campaign.
He started 43 games during his Notre Dame career and was a consensus preseason All-America selection as a senior and named to the Outland Trophy, Rimington Award and Lombardi Award watch lists, but with two freshmen guards starting beside Sullivan, the offense and the offensive line struggled during his senior season. The offensive line allowed 58 sacks after giving up 31 in 2006 and 21 in 2005. Sullivan started all 13 games at center as a junior and was credited with getting 54 knockdown and seven touchdown-resulting blocks. He started the final eight games as a sophomore after being limited for the first four games with a shoulder strain. He helped the team average 477.3 yards per game in total offense in 2005. He took over the starting center job for the Irish in 2004, playing in all 12 games.
In high school, Sulllivan was a Parade and Super Prep All-American, as well as Connecticut’s Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior at Greenwich High.
The Vikings now have all five of their draft picks signed and are set to begin training camp practices on Friday morning with the NFL-mandated maximum 80 players on the roster. The players are due to arrive in Mankato today, with meetings scheduled for Thursday.
