Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has been diagnosed with an MCL sprain in his right knee.

After two solid preseason games, Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has been diagnosed with a “mild” sprain of his right medial collateral ligament, according to multiple reports, after getting a magnetic resonance imaging test on Sunday.

Jackson is believed to have suffered the injury during a 9-yard scramble in the first quarter of Saturday night’s preseason game. He stayed in the game for two more plays, including a 12-yard completion before trying to get to the sidelines. He fell to the turf and was later helped to the sideline, where he had his knee wrapped in ice. He stayed in the locker room longer at halftime to receive treatment and returned to the sideline with a brace on the knee.

Jackson is expected to miss a week or two, but should be ready for the regular-season opener.

He completed 8 of 11 passes in his first preseason action and 7 of 11 Saturday night before he left the field.

Vikings coach Brad Childress isn’t scheduled to talk to the media until Tuesday, but the Vikings resume practices at Winter Park on Monday.
