Adrian Peterson became only the fifth Viking to gain 100 yards rushing on a Monday night game, joining Chuck Foreman (1976 and '75), Robert Smith (2000), Mewelde Moore (2005) and Ted Brown (1981 and '83). Peterson had 103 yards on 19 carries.
Peterson also tied Bill Brown for second place in franchise history with the most 100-yard rushing games in a season opener. Each of them have two 100-yard season openers while Robert Smith had three (1996-97, 2000)
Peterson's 34-yard run in the first quarter was the second longest in team history during a Monday night game. Darrin Nelson holds that distinction with 72-yard run against Denver in a 1987 Monday nighter.
Cedric Griffin became only the fourth player in team history to block a field goal in a season opener, joining Carl Eller (1970), Mark Mullaney (1978) and Tim Irwin (1984).
Griffin became the sixth Viking to block a field goal on Monday night and the first since 1979, joining Bobby Bryant (1973), Alan Page (1975 and '76), Eller (1976) and Randy Holloway (1979).
