Gordon, who suffered the season-ending injury when tackled on a punt return against the Packers (Nov. 9), had also established himself as the team's primary nickel back.
All reports suggest that Gordon is on track to return to the field perhaps as soon as post-draft mini camp workouts after undergoing successful surgery on his ankle in North Carolina last November.
Analysis: Gordon is a talented athlete with marginal size and sustained speed, but he had shown flashes as a punt returner and looked solid as a nickel corner in the team's cover-2 defensive scheme. Re-signing Gordon lessens the team's need for help at cornerback. It doesn't preclude them from drafting a player high at that position, but it helps fill out the depth chart so that the need isn't quite as pressing.
Remaining restricted free agents include defensive tackle Fred Evans, defensive ends Otis Grigsby and Jayme Mitchell and fullback Naufahu Tahi.
