For the second time in two months, WR Percy Harvin is missing a rookie function due to illness. This time it was a league symposium. Last time it was Vikings rookie minicamp.

Perhaps Percy Harvin is going to start needing a note from his mother to explain his league-related illnesses.

Two months after missing the Vikings rookie minicamp due to illness, Harvin was sent home Monday from the league’s rookie symposium for another illness, according to NFL.com.

Harvin and the rest of the 256 players in the 2009 rookie crop showed up at the four-day symposium Sunday afternoon in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. before he fell ill. After being looked at by the medical staff, Harvin was excused and sent home to where his family lives in Gainesville, Fla.

At the team’s first scheduled minicamp in May, Harvin did not attend after falling ill at the airport waiting for a connecting flight out of Atlanta. He was hospitalized and excused from the minicamp. According to the league’s website, Harvin was excused from the symposium. There is a chance that, if he feels better, Harvin will return to the symposium, which provides rookies with seminars to acclimate themselves to the trappings of the NFL lifestyle, today.

Some of the topics discussed at the symposium include penalties for criminal and drug arrests, financial responsibility, identity theft, dealing with the posse of friends and family from childhood, domestic violence, women who look to cash in on NFL players, sexually transmitted diseases, and, thanks to Michael Vick, dogfighting.

TUESDAY NOTES

  • Former Viking Hank Baskett tied the knot over the weekend with former Hugh Hefner playmate Kendra Wilkinson. Baskett has become a supporting character on the reality show “Kendra,” which traces the day-to-day life of the former co-star of “The Girls Next Door” – a TV show that followed along with three of Hef’s main girlfriends.

  • In an interview with the local Chiefs media, former Viking QB Tyler Thigpen said he has accepted his role as the backup QB behind 2009 offseason acquisition Matt Cassel. Thigpen, who started 11 games in 2008 for the Chiefs after being claimed off of waivers from the Vikings, is currently listed as No. 2 on the Chiefs depth chart behind the former New England starter.

  • There is growing speculation that Commissioner Roger Goodell’s tough stance on players who violate the law will continue. Reports are that Goodell is going to act soon on potential suspensions for Michael Vick and Plaxico Burress and that both punishments could be severe – as in at least a one-year suspension.

  • Former Vikings head coach and current UFL coach Dennis Green said Monday that he believes when Vick is reinstated, he could end up in Miami, where Bill Parcells has been known to give players a second chance.
