Allen shoots back at Oher's comments

Vikings defensive end Jared Allen had a response Monday morning to some trash-talking comments made by Baltimore’s Michael Oher after the game. Plus, updates on a few injuries.

Jared Allen had a different perspective on how he was “handled” by Ravens rookie offensive tackle Michael Oher.

Allen was credited with one sack in Sunday’s game with the Ravens.

"I think he found out I'm an OK player. Guy makes like $100 million. I think I did all right,” Oher said, according to the Baltimore Sun.

"In the second half, I feel like I shut him out. There is nothing really special about him. I think if we played them (in Baltimore), it would make a big difference.”

Allen offered his perspective after being informed of Oher’s comments on Jay Glazer’s AfterParty on FoxSports.com.

"Well, that's just some idiot trying to talk himself up," Allen said. "I beat that dude like a red-headed step child, let's be honest. If he was so good why did they have to chip me all day? Ask him that.”

Allen was credited with seven tackles, four for losses, one sack and two additional quarterback hurries.

"That's just a rookie trying to build his self-confidence up,” Allen said. “Besides, you lost and your quarterback spent his whole day on the back of his head until the fourth quarter. That guy (Oher) will watch film today and realize. Everybody else in the world saw me abuse him."

Oher had false starts in the first and second quarter as well, but he said that was just the “mistiming of the snap.”

Allen’s sack came in the fourth quarter.

The Ravens had 222 yards of offense in the fourth quarter, including 196 gross passing yards from second-year quarterback Joe Flacco.

“We were beating the brakes off them in every phase of the game until that fourth quarter,” Allen said. “Dude (Flacco) was throwing Hail Marys up and they were all coming through.”

Later, Allen was asked about Vikings rookie receiver Percy Harvin, who was selected 22rd overall in April’s draft, one spot ahead of Oher.

“Whoever the hell the guy is from the Ravens should take a page out of his book. Just play and don’t talk. How about that?” Allen said.

MONDAY NOTES

Childress said on Monday that Antoine Winfield has a sprained foot and was getting treatment for it. He didn’t speculate whether or not Winfield would be ready for Sunday’s game against the Steelers.

“People heal so differently it’s hard to know,” Childress said. “I would have thought (Phil) Loadholt’s (ankle) injury would have held him out longer than it held him out. Guys have different recuperative skills and I’m not going to rule him in or rule him out at this point.”

Childress said Percy Harvin’s shoulder injury, which was re-injured on Sunday, was about at the same place it was last week on Monday.

“I just saw him, as a matter of fact, as I walked out the door there. He’s sore. Going through the treatment process,” Childress said. “I asked him if they hit harder in this league than in the SEC. He said the SEC hits harder.”

With their win Sunday, the Vikings stand alone with the best record in the NFL. There are still four unbeaten teams, but all three of the others are currently 5-0 – the Colts are on their bye week, the Saints already had their bye and Denver can improve to 6-0 with a win tonight against San Diego.

With Chicago’s loss Sunday night, the Vikings now enjoy a two-and-a-half game lead in the NFC North with the Vikings at 6-0 and both the Bears and Packers at 3-2.

At the time of Brett Favre’s biceps tendon injury last year, he and the Jets had a record of 8-3. Dating back to the 2007 season, in the last 33 regular season games in which Favre hasn’t been injured, his team’s have a record of 27-6 – 13-3 with Green Bay, 8-3 with New York and 6-0 with the Vikings.

Who says the Metrodome is a house of horrors for Favre? With Sunday’s win, he has thrown two or more touchdowns in his last 11 games at the Metrodome – three as a Viking and his last eight games as a Packer.

Sherman Lewis, who served as the offensive coordinator under Dennis Green for the Vikings in 2000-01, is the new play-caller for the Washington Redskins. The team has stripped head coach Jim Zorn of that duty after Sunday’s hideous loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Redskins set an NFL record by playing all six of their games to start the 2009 season against teams that didn’t have any wins when they met the Redskins. While that sounds like a recipe for success, Washington has a 2-4 record and has yet to score more than 17 points in any game this season.

The Vikings are the second-highest scoring team in the NFL with 189 points – an average of 31.5 points a game. They trail only New Orleans, which has scored a whopping 192 points in five games – an average of 38.4 points a game.
