Ray Edwards and Nate Triplett joined the ranks of Vikings under contract, but six others were released following the team’s minicamp this weekend. Here’s a look at Monday’s roster activity and the draft picks left to sign.

Less than 24 hours removed from the end of their minicamp, the Vikings were busy making moves on Monday.

Starting defensive end Ray Edwards signed his restricted free-agent tender. Edwards had until Tuesday to sign the $2.521 million tender or risk have the offer reduced to 110 percent of his 2009 salary, which would have meant about a $1.4 million loss for the four-year veteran of the NFL.

Edwards was one of more than 200 NFL players whose free agency was affected by the lack of a long-term Collective Bargaining Agreement. When the owners opted out of the current CBA and a new one wasn’t reach before the start of free agency in March, players with expiring contracts needed at least six years of NFL experience to become unrestricted free agents. Under the previous rules of free agency, they needed only four years to become unrestricted.

Edwards was tendered at a first-round level and he was upset at his situation, electing to hold off signing his tender until after the mandatory minicamp. Since he wasn’t under contract, he couldn’t be fined for missing the minicamp, but beyond that move he held little power because of his restricted status.

In addition to Edwards, the Vikings officially added fifth-round draft pick Nate Triplett to the roster. The former University of Minnesota linebacker signed his contract with the Vikings on Monday. Terms weren’t immediately disclosed.

That meant the Vikings needed to trim their roster by at least two players, but they cut even more than that.

They waived undrafted rookies Eddie Adamski (center), Matt Hanson (tackle), Aaron Rhea (a wide receiver who wasn’t able to practice all weekend because of an injury), Angelo Williams (cornerback) and Marlon Winn (tackle). They also waived free-agent running back James Johnson, who was with the Bengals last year.

The Vikings still have six draft picks to sign – second-rounders Chris Cook (cornerback) and Toby Gerhart (running back), fourth-rounder Everson Griffen (defensive end), fifth-rounder Chris DeGeare (offensive lineman), sixth-rounder Joe Webb (quarterback), and seventh-rounder Mickey Shuler (tight end).

Triplett joined seventh-rounder Ryan D’Imperio as the Vikings’ draft picks under contract.

The Vikings will have to release two more players to get all of their draft picks signed before the start of training camp on July 30.
