Harvin ‘fine’ after scare
Percy Harvin (Tom Dahlin/Viking Update)
Posted Jul 31, 2010
Wide receiver Percy Harvin took a ride on the cart from the medical tent to the locker room during the morning practice, but he was back in limited capacity for the evening event and gave a brief update on his condition.
caused some concern for observers when he left Saturday’s morning practice on a cart after walking over to the medical tent, but Harvin was back in action testing an injured ankle in the evening practice.
“It was just a little tweak in my ankle. It hurt at first. It swelled up, but we got the swelling to go down and I was able to come out here and do a little something today,” he said.
“I’ll continue to follow the program, the rehab, but I feel fine. I’ll be alright, so everything looked good.”’
The 2009 offensive rookie of the year started the evening practice fielding punts and made the first catch during full-team work as the practice moved inside Blakeslee Stadium for a fan-friendly evening event. Midway through the first passing session, he took an inadvertent late hit from LB
that seemed to stun him, but he returned to catch the second pass of a seven-on-seven session. A few plays later, he made an acrobatic catch down the middle of the field after initially bobbling the ball.
Throughout the first half of the evening practice, Harvin appeared to be limited before shutting it down, but Childress also indicated it was a minor injury associated with the bumps and bruises of training camp.
“All these guys are on and back off. Adrian (Peterson) tightened up a little bit and he came back in. Percy got back in,” Childress said. “Some of it’s muscles, some of it’s coming down hard, but it’s training camp.”
Peterson was limited in his work Saturday night, but the team is likely trying to lessen the probability of injury to a high-impact position.
took many of the first-team snaps at running back.
“Just tightened up a little bit,” Childress said of Peterson. “Just pushing through.”
also got kicked late in the practice, but his injury also appeared minor.
The team is also being cautious in limiting the number of reps
takes, especially during the contact portions of camp. Henderson is coming back from a fractured femur suffered in December.
“We’re kind of spoon feeding him a little bit. You just want to go back and see where he is tomorrow and see where he is tomorrow and see where he is tomorrow,” Childress said. “Somewhere we’ll get into some of that team stuff, but he’s just happy to be out there moving around.”
